Questions & Getting Started

Rehabilitation vs. Fitness & Wellness

Both are provided by a licensed physical therapist. The difference is what’s being addressed: rehabilitation treats an ailment or injury under a documented plan of care, while fitness and wellness services build capacity when no ailment or injury is being evaluated or treated.

Physical Therapy

Treating an injury or impairment

Targeted therapy to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore function — for when pain is limiting your daily activities.

  • Orthopedic injuries & post-surgical recovery
  • Tendinopathies & acute sprains
  • Dry needling, manual therapy, and BFR within a plan of care
Evaluation $125 · Follow-up $65 Includes an evaluation, diagnosis, and a documented plan of care. Visit packages available. Receipts can be submitted to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Fitness & Wellness

Building capacity, no injury being addressed

Physical therapy services related to fitness and wellness: personalized programming and biomechanical optimization to break plateaus, build resilience, and push your physical baseline.

  • Strength & hypertrophy programming, barbell mechanics
  • Cardiovascular conditioning & interval programming
  • Global movement & mobility assessment, personal and sport training
Evaluation $100 · Follow-up $50 No ailment or injury is evaluated or treated, and these services aren’t eligible for insurance reimbursement. Dry needling can be added when appropriate, following a medical screening.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between rehabilitation and fitness & wellness services? Both are delivered by a licensed physical therapist. Rehabilitation addresses an ailment or injury and includes an evaluation, diagnosis, and a documented plan of care. Fitness and wellness services build strength, conditioning, and movement quality when no ailment or injury is being evaluated or treated, and aren’t reimbursable by insurance. See the comparison above for what each includes.
Do you take insurance? No. Physiotactics is cash-based and out-of-network with all insurance plans. A receipt is provided for self-submission if your plan offers out-of-network benefits.
What should I expect at the first visit? A full movement assessment and hands-on evaluation, followed by an initial treatment and a plan tailored to your goals — typically 45–60 minutes.
Do you come to my home? Yes — Physiotactics is a mobile practice. Visits happen at your home, gym, or workplace, wherever works best for your training.
What’s dry needling? A thin filament needle is inserted into tight or irritated muscle tissue to reduce pain and restore mobility. It’s often used as part of a treatment session when appropriate, and can also be booked as a standalone, a la carte service.
Do I need a doctor’s referral? No. Illinois direct access law allows a physical therapist to evaluate and treat you without a referral, and private-pay clients don’t need one. Some insurers still require a referral for reimbursement, so check with your plan if you intend to submit receipts.
What should I wear or have ready? Comfortable athletic clothing that allows access to the area being treated, plus a bit of open space to move.
